When it comes to Halloween decor, I am drawn to the more “cute” decor rather than the tacky, gory decor we often see in stores (I prefer to save my tacky decor for Christmas!). These DIY clay ghosts were so much fun to make! Ever since making my terracotta pumpkin, I have been looking into more and more clay diy projects and came across the cute ghost tea light covers. I also have to use up the rest of my air-dry clay and this seemed like a great way to do that. This was such an easy diy, I had to share!
Here’s what you’ll need:
-Air-dry Clay
-Rolling pin / cup to roll out clay
-Styrofoam ball or golf ball (anything round to drape the clay on)
-Paint brush
-Pencil
-Water
-White paint
-Electric tea light candles
Steps to create the ghosts:
- You’ll first take a handful of air-dry clay and roll it out till flat.
- Drape clay over a small round object (I used a foam ball and golf ball)
- Pinch the edges to create pleats until you have your desired shape of the ghost
- Poke eye holes where you want them with a pencil
- Go over any cracks in the clay with a paint brush dipped in water to smooth out the surface
- Let the clay dry for a full 24 hours
- Once the clay is completely dry remove the round objects from inside the ghosts
- Paint the ghosts white (or whatever color you’d like!)
- Place ghosts on top of an electric tea light candle
And that’s it! I would like to point out that you must use and electric tea light candle when doing this project, a regular tea light candle will burn through the clay. I posted the video of me doing this diy on my Instagram, so feel free to check it out!
