June was full of vacations and weekend getaways so it was a bit of a slower reading month. But even with a lesser quantity, I had a 5 star read I couldn’t put down and finished a series I have been wanting to close out for quite some time! There are so many books that are on my radar for this upcoming month, I can’t wait to get into them. Until then, here are the reads from June..
Pineapple Street by Jenny Jackson 2.5 / 5 stars
One of the most disappointing reads I’ve had in awhile. I so badly wanted to enjoy this- I normally love messy, rich family drama but this missed the mark for me. Jenny Jackson takes us into the lives of the elite and entitled who plan and attend glamorous parties, play tennis, and keep their secrets hidden. The characters were messy, which I loved, however absolutely nothing happened in this book. There was no plot. And while there were a few shocking revelations we find out about the characters throughout the novel, there isn’t anything driving the story. I was never excited to pick this book up and continue it, I more so finished it to hope there would be something worthwhile in the end. Unfortunately, there was not.
The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood 5 / 5 stars
I have no idea what took me so long to get around to this book, but WOW I absolutely loved it! I have a special place in my heart for women in STEM, so having one be a main character in a fake dating novel sounded great to me. The relationship between Olive and Adam plays out so well through the pages. Adam’s tough exterior and Olive’s loveable personality come together and compliment each other in the best way. This was my first book by Ali Hazelwood and her writing absolutely blew me away. I loved the references to science and chemistry throughout the book as they weren’t overly hard to digest, but just right for the average reader to understand what the characters were talking about. So many times I laughed out loud at her witty writing and dry humor. I usually shy away from books that have gotten so much hype as they usually don’t live up to the expectation, but this one did not disappoint at all! I look forward to picking up more books from Ali Hazelwood!
We’ll Always Have Summer by Jenny Han 3 / 5 stars
This month I finally got around to finishing The Summer I Turned Pretty trilogy. Overall this book was okay. It felt like it dragged on for a bit and was longer than it needed to be. The last few pages made it somewhat worth it to me, but I just wish there was more to enjoy towards the end. I started watching the series on Amazon Prime and I actually enjoy the show than the books- which NEVER happens for me. Because we only really get Belly’s point of view throughout most of these books, we don’t get the other character’s reactions as much. Whereas, in the show we’re able to see other people’s reactions and emotions that we don’t get in the pages. I’m excited to continue the series on Amazon and see how it plays out on screen vs the books.
