Since going blonde (about seven years ago) I have been actively looking for ways to keep my hair healthy. From taking biotin to using low heat settings on hot tools, I just wanted to do all that I could to keep it from becoming overly brittle and lifeless. I found using hot tool after hot tool on my hair was causing a lot of breakage on my ends and drying out my hair. There are currently so many heatless options out there to help style and curl your hair- all that fail to work on my hard to curl hair.

VERSATILITY
Probably my favorite aspect about the Dyson Airwrap is how many different attachments and features it has. Being able to use the same product to take my hair from wet to dry to styled all in one is an absolute gamechanger. Not to mention how much I love the volume and blow out effect it has on my hair. Having multiple attachments that could all be used on one base- AND was better for the overall health of your hair? Say less.
ATTACHMENTS
There are six attachments that come with the Dyson Airwrap Multi-styler that each give a different style to your hair:
- Coanda Smoothing Dryer– used to dry hair at the roots and smooths out frizz, perfect for those flyaways
- 1.2 inch Airwrap Long Barrel– tighter, voluminous curls and changes direction of airflow with a simple twist
- Soft Smoothing Brush– for a straighter style to use on finer hair with wider and softer bristles
- 1.6 inch Airwrap Long Barrel– loose, bouncy curls and changes direction of airflow with a simple twist
- Firm Smoothing Brush– for a straighter style to use on frizz prone hair with closer and firmer bristles
- Volumizing Round Brush– creates shape and helps dry roots when starting with damp hair
The Airwrap also comes with a storage case to keep all the attachments and base neatly organized together. The case is quite hefty and fabric lined, keeping all parts protected while not in use. If you are thinking about traveling with the Airwrap, I would opt to leave the storage case at home and only bring the attachments you would like to use in a travel bag. This saves so much space in my suitcase and not to mention only having to deal with one cord!
STYLE TIMES
Because a blowout can last me a few days, I like to take my time when using the Airwrap. I do have longer, finer hair, so keep that in mind when referring to drying times!
- Conanda Smoothing Dryer to dry my hair from roots to ends can take about 8 minutes, only drying my roots to prep for styling takes about 5 minutes. If I’m using the smoothing setting to combat any frizz or flyaways it adds on another 3 minutes-this is my favorite attachment feature for the Airwrap. One tool that can dry and smooth out my hair? Amazing.
- Using the 1.2 and 1.6 Long Barrels on damp hair can take about 20-25 minutes depending on the barrel. With the larger barrel I am able to have more hair curl and dry at once, cutting down the overall style time.
- The Volumizing Round Brush on my damp hair is around 24 minutes on damp hair and around 10 minutes on dry hair.
- Both the Firm and Soft Smoothing Brush both take around 20 minutes to style on damp hair and about 5 minutes on dry hair to smooth and brush through.
Again, I would decrease or extend these drying times depending on what type of hair you have as well as if you are starting with dry or damp hair, this is just the average time it takes me to use the Dyson Airwrap. I usually like to start with my hair damp and then style. It takes less time to style my hair when it is dry, however I find that the style lasts longer when I start with damp hair.
PRICE
When I first heard about the Dyson Airwrap my eyes immediately went to the price tag. I had a Dyson vacuum cleaner at the time that costs less than this entire set! However, after reading the reviews and breaking down the price per attachment, while still expensive, it became a little more clear as to why this had become a cult product. With six different attachments (putting us at averaging $100 per tool) I started to see where the price began to come into play. Most of my high-end hot tools average around $150-$200, and that is just for one single functioning tool. So to get six different tools for $100 each, not to mention that they are also better for the over health of your hair, I started to talked myself into it. Spoiler: I’m so glad I did!
I will say, there are other brands out that that are in current competition with the Dyson Airwrap- the Shark Flexstyle being one of them. Coming in at half the price of the Dyson, the Shark Flexstyle uses the same concept and similar technology of using also has multiple attachments you can use that can give you that blowout look. Using similar technology and has the same concept of air styling and using less heat on your hair. While I personally have not used the Shark Flexstyle, I have seen and heard that it’s a pretty great option if you’re not looking to splurge on the Dyson Airwrap.
TAKEAWAYS
Pros:
- Less heat on your hair– While this product isn’t completely heatless, it uses a significant less amount of heat on your hair than a typical straightener or curling iron. With the Airwrap not exceeding over 302 degrees on it’s highest heat setting, it is a much better alternative to the traditional hot tools that can exceed temperatures of over 400 degrees on their highest heat setting.
- Multiple tools in one – This is probably one of the biggest pros for me. It’s the main reason I talked myself into getting this bad boy. Breaking down the price per attachment gave me more of a logical approach to purchasing this product (I use the word logical loosely here, as I know this is a lot of money to fork out for a beauty tool).
- Cool shot feature to set hair in place– there aren’t many, if any, tools out there that help set curls by having a cool shot setting. The cool shot feature works on every attachment and is great to use when you’re wanting to set your hair in place. I like to use this feature for about 10 seconds after using the warmer setting.
- Great for traveling– I absolutely hate traveling with multiple hair tools. I love doing my hair, so naturally I have a lot of hair tools that I like to take with me on weekend trips and week long vacations. This past summer while we were on vacation in Hawaii I got so frustrated at how much space was taken up in my suitcase by my different curling irons, a blow dryer, a straightener, and velcro curlers. Now it’s SO nice to only have to bring the small, space saving, Dyson Airwrap attachments when we travel!
- Can use on damp or dry hair– When giving a blowout, I always start with damp hair to get that desired volume. I have found with the Dyson Airwrap that you can get that blowout look if you have damp or dry hair. I do prefer to style my hair starting damp, however it’s not required to get that volume and bounce if you don’t have the time.
Cons
- Price– As stated above, the price is in fact the only setback I have with this product.
FINAL THOUGHTS
If you haven’t figured it out already, I absolutely love my Dyson Airwrap. I completely get the hype. I feel so much better about my hair when I take the time to give myself a blowout. Not to mention how much better my hair FEELS and LOOKS after using the Airwrap. The volume and shine are just unbeatable. I love the feeling of giving my hair a break from the heat and hot tools and opting for a better product to use on my hair. While I still have my other hot tools: straightener, curling iron, curling wand, Revlon One Step Hair Dryer, etc., there isn’t a tool I own that gives me the look of a blow out like this one does. However, the price.. THE PRICE. Would I say that the Dyson Airwrap is worth the price? Honestly, yes and no. If you’re able to splurge on this, I’d say do it. However, with there now being a dupe for the Dyson, the Shark Flexstyle, that gives a similar look, I can’t say that it’s worth the extra $300 to get the Dyson. Again, I haven’t personally used the Shark Flexstyle but the fact that you could get a similar look for literally half the price of the Airwrap, I’d say it’s at least worth looking into.
I haven’t reached for one of those hot tools since getting my Airwrap! I have a feeling this one is here to stay for a long, long time.
