Pillow Talk : Playing with Pattern

6 OCT

Playing with pattern is one of my favorite parts of the styling process. Whether it be wallpaper, textiles, art, etc., creating dimension with pattern and texture can elevate any space. One particular styling piece that is great for this, that I can’t seem to have enough of, are throw pillows. These cozy decorative pillows are a weakness and a necessity all in the same.

My go-to places to get throw pillows and throw pillow covers are Etsy, Anthropology, Crate and Barrel, and Target. When combining different types of pattern, layering linear and floral designs are one of my favorite combinations. These two different styles give a high contrast against one another. Personally, I enjoy integrating colors that compliment one another within the design of the pillow cover itself. Having pillows that coordinate with each other in hues and color families make it feel more cohesive, even when the designs themselves are completely different. Mixing pattern is also a great way to add color to your home when you’re not looking to commit to anything overly bold. Having a neutral base like creamy walls or solid colored bedding creates a blank canvas for you to combine throw pillows of all different variations. When picking your patterned throw pillows, keep in mind of your surroundings and the particular style you are going for. See what patterns you are drawn to and combine what you think works together. If you feel it works in your space, then great! It is pattern play after all, it’s meant to be fun!

Below are few more pillows that caught my eye over the last few weeks. One pillow I referenced in my Transition to Autumn post, but many of these can be style year round if you’re not looking to switch up your pillows season to season. Happy mixing!
