A slower reading month for me with just one book down, but it was a good one!
Beautiful Ugly by Alice Feeney 4 / 5 stars
Author Grady Green is finally having the big break his career has been waiting for. He calls his wife Abby to share some exciting news when he suddenly hears her slam on the breaks, get out of her car, and then silence on the other end of the line. A year after his wife’s disappearance he travels to a remote Scottish island to try and get back into writing. While on the island of Amberley, Grady encounters very few people, one looking exactly like his wife. “Wives think their husbands will change but they don’t. Husbands think their wives won’t change but they do.” WHEW! It’s not often that I’m genuinely shocked by the ending of a book, but this one got me. I knew I would love the setting of this book when I read it was based in Scotland. I’m such a sucker for mystery thrillers based in the UK. There were some parts of this book that moved a bit slower than I would’ve liked, there were a few repetitive themes that made the book have a bit of a lull in the middle, but for me the ending was completely worth the wait. I’ve always been a fan of a dog having a part in a novel and Columbo was a great addition to this one. If you’re looking for quick mystery thriller to add to your list, I highly recommend this one!
