Here we are, almost at the end of October, and I completely forgot to post what I read in September. Better late than never I suppose! I only read one book in September with all the traveling we were doing.
Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera 3.5 / 5 stars
When Lucy is found wandering down a road covered in her best friend’s blood, everyone in her small town assumes she murdered Savvy. With no memory of that horrible night, Lucy fleas to LA leaving behind her estranged marriage to start a new life, only to return years later after being invited to her grandmother’s milestone birthday. Upon arriving back to Texas she runs into Ben, the host of the true crime podcast “Listen for the Lie”, who is in town to investigate Savvy’s murder. Hesitant, Lucy decides to help Ben by letting him interview her with hopes of rejogging her memory and to finally find answers about the night Savvy was murdered. I enjoyed this one! I like the podcast format sprinkled in throughout the shorter chapters. The only character I looked forward to reading about was the grandmother- there aren’t many likeable characters in this book but it didn’t take away from the storyline. I do wish the pace was a bit quicker, there were a few times I lost interest due to chapters feeling a bit like extra fluff. Everyone raved about the audiobook, I read this on my Kindle.
