Natural materials such as raffia, cane, and straw pieces give life to a space. While most of these materials can be found in homes along the coast, they have become wildly popular over the last few years taking space on shelves in department and furniture stores everywhere. Baskets are no longer the only use for these natural materials, as they are now used for a variety of pieces such as: rugs, light fixtures, side tables, and picture frames to name a few. There has always been a long standing relationship between raffia and cane in interior design. I myself can remember my great aunt’s screened in porch being adorned with these natural materials. Her cane wrapped patio set was always a favorite of mine. These woven colors and textures have a place in my home year round and are timeless styling pieces.
