Coming in a little late this month with my reading wrap-up for March, but I read some pretty amazing reads the last few weeks and can’t wait to tell you all about them. I read three books that have been on my TBR shelf for quite sometime now, so it felt great to not only mark them off my list, but to also enjoy them as much as I did.
VERITY by Colleen Hoover 4 / 5 stars
Whew. I walked away from this book thinking one thing: Colleen Hoover needs to write more dark, twisted, mystery thrillers. I’ve always had a love / hate relationship with Colleen Hoover’s writing style. It’s very easily digestible, almost too easy. There’s little for the reader to interpret- it’s quite literally words on a page. Aside from our complicated past, Hoover surprised me with this one. While I somewhat predicted the ending this was still a wild ride to see how it all unfolded. I could’ve done without the romance OR I would’ve loved to see it played out more in a darker way. Lowen’s house sounded like a dream and a nightmare all in one. Probably my favorite description of a house I have ever read in a novel. There were a few things I would’ve like to see happen, regardless of how dark and twisted it was- just to see Hoover push those boundaries. It was hard for me to put this down. I always wanted to see what was going to happen next- also this book should come with a warning to not read at night because wow some parts are beyond creepy but also SO GOOD. Again, I wish Hoover would put out more books like this. By far my favorite book of hers.
PART OF YOUR WORLD by Abby Jimenez 4 / 5 stars
This book made me so giddy! Which doesn’t happen often, especially with romance novels. There was a lot that happened in this and quite a few side stories that I enjoyed all the same. Jimenez’s writing style is more so what really made me fall in love with this novel. The plot was super cute and not overly cheesy which I appreciated. There are some pretty heavy and real life topics that are addressed in this book (domestic abuse, family trauma, emotional abuse to name a few), all which Jimenez did a great job with addressing and tying into the story. This was my first book by Abby Jimenez and WOW I get the hype. I can’t wait to explore more of what this author has written! Also- if you haven’t checked her out on TikTok, she has some adorable internet famous pups that she has actually included in one of her novels.
DAISY JONES & THE SIX by Taylor Jenkins Reid 4 / 5 stars
I went into this book not expecting too much from it. I know that it has been loved by SO very many people, but I for some reason just couldn’t wrap my head around reading about a soft rock n’ roll band. However, I am happy to report that I enjoyed this so much. This is considered a historical fiction, which honestly TJR pretty much kills it in that genre, and is written in an interview format. At first I wasn’t too sure how I would like reading such a staggered feeling narrative coming from so many different sources, but it flowed nicely and I was able to see where people saw the retelling of their encounters from two very different perspectives- it’s so interesting to see how characters deciphered the exact situations from completely different vantage points. This somewhat opened my eyes to interpretation and makes you wonder what exactly happened during those moments. This novel also gave me more of an understanding of how these superstars get involved in so many vices that are bad for them. You meet these characters from the very beginning of their journey. From playing in a garage to playing on a sold out tour, you’re really able to see personal developments come full circle- the good and the bad. Throughout this novel I felt sympathy, frustration, and support for these characters. I had a soft spot for them all. I just started watching the series on Peacock and have been loving it so far!
