A Thought Going Into 2023

23 DEC

So many changes have happened over the last twelve months for me and my little family. A new home, becoming landlords, and a career change to name a few. With 2023 beginning in a little over a week, I thought I’d mention something that has been weighing heavy on my mind before going into the new year.

It seems like each year I’m hoping for more time. More time to be with friends and family. More time to myself. More time to get things done. More time, more time, more time. Time is such a precious gift (also happens to be my love language if you can’t already tell, lol) and it is the one thing that we are not promised more of.

I wasn’t exactly looking forward to the end of the holiday season or the start of the new year. It seems like every year we rush to complete everything we need to do in order to get ready for Christmas and Thanksgiving and then before you know it, it’s here and gone in a day’s time. In a couple of weeks we will be taking down the decorations that seem like they were just put up and preparing for that fresh new start we mention every January. And while I love the idea of starting new, there is a bittersweetness in leaving my favorite time of year that always seems to go by too fast.

I have talked about before how I have been wanting to slow down and be more present in the moment, to take in all that is happening around me without thinking, “What do I need to do after this?”. I’m always in the mindset of the next thing. I think our brains are trained in this day and age to constantly think and do, so when we try and slow down it feels wrong. Taking a breath and and quieting my mind is so difficult, and this has only become more and more apparent this holiday season. In 2023 I hope to prioritize and practice slowing down and enjoying all the moments for all that they are worth. With this intention in place I hope time will feel like it can slow down even just by the smallest degree.

xx
